I prefer to believe IBM avout it.
They admit in response to the question if Deep blue uses artificial intelligence
that Deep blue is based on computational power and they admit that the
evaluation and search are simpler.

IBM hides the fact that they lost against Fritz3(p90) so I do not believe that
they hide better search and evaluation than search and evaluation of commercial
programs that is not simple.
