Hi !
I think, that this could very well be an effect of the smaller processor
cache of the 486 processor. I observed a similar effect when I reduced
the move stack of my program. On the 486 platform, the program was
considerably faster (~ 5%) thanks to less memory usage. However, on the
P5 there was no measurable effect. I think doubling all arrays
dimensioned with the max-ply could be quite drastic for a 486 ?
