First a math lesson.  KRPKR (king + rook + pawn vs king + rook) takes
about
1 gigabyte.  Add one more piece and you need 64 gigabytes.  Add one more
and
you need 4 terrabytes.

Second, deep blue doesn't generate databases.  Just like Crafty doesn't
generate 'em.  This process is totally different from playing chess and
searching the game tree.

Finally, no idea how long, but KRP vs KR takes about 2 weeks with Steven
Edward's program, 2-3 days with Bruce's program.  How much to add for
another
piece is hard to estimate, because it is not the number of pieces as
much
as it is how deep is the mate?  IE 6 piece endings could have mate in >
300,
which is going to take a *long* time to run for those that are difficult
like
that...
