I've now found the cure... I threw my PC out of the window, and hey presto, I now get the same results each and every time! It consistently never gets past depth 0, but it *is* at least consistent... ;-) Anyway, seeing as my problem hasn't been mentioned here before, I did expect it to be something that I was doing wrong and too specific and subtle for anyone to pinpoint. It was just a slim hope of a question. I also knew I could count on you guys to help me see the funny side of it...
