I presume you mean *without* using a human interface. Actually, in a
very limited sense, you *can* on the Mac, by using a program like Rolf
Exner's ExaChess, currently available in version 1.1. The programs you
can pit against each other have to be Apple-Script compliant. Currently
there are MacChess 3.0e, Crafty 11.13, and GnuChessMac 4.0. I have no
idea if the new Hiarcs 6.0 for the Mac qualifies. You may still have to
fiddle with the individual programs in an attempt to equalize settings
(time controls, etc.), but from that point on you can just watch the
match unfold.
