Dear Gentlemen, As you know, I know next to nothing about chess programs and computers. But here's some input for your discussion of whether ChessBase Power Books should have been used. When I began my Correspondence Chess Challenge verus Fritz 6a and Nimzo 7.32, I asked whether ChessBase USA would let the chess engines use the Power Books. To my surprise, ChessBase decided that the chess enginers were stronger without these books becuase they noticed that the programs would often play into lines that they didn't understand, and then fail to play well. Instead, the programs are "tuned" for their own opening books, so there was less fear of playing into a line and then blundering once the books data ends. I hope that helps. Stephen
