I think that you must have some other applications running alongside your chess
programs that slows them down.  The general conclusion about Windows 2000 is
that chess programs run as fast there as anywhere else, if not faster.  To make
sure just take a look at Michel Langeveld's page where there's lots of data on
the speed of Crafty running under different OS's http://homes.dsl.nl/~rudolf/).
I think that the data over there show that Crafty runs fastest under Win 2000.
