When I use a material-only evaluation function, my program searches 800k NPS. I guess this implies that my program spends 25% of its time evaluating positional stuff and 75% of its time generating moves and so forth. By the way, when you say "material exchange," you really want to say search or tactics. When you say "tactics," you really mean "positional evaluation." -Tom
