You have asked the $$$$$ question. Here is my answer (or opinion if you like). :) Take it with a grain of salt or not at all. :) The SSDF has done a great job of testing and rating computer programs. The SSDF rating has a good correlation with FIDE rated humans vs computer performance ratings. see: Tony's page for my list and SSDF calibration games http://home.interact.se/~w100107/welcome.htm My opinion is that this is a good measure and is in line with test suites (that are usually calibrated using SSDF lists) and analysis of games by experts. There will of course be exceptions, however, the SSDF has done a good job in this area.
