Go up one level in this thread

1) On a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being the most tolerant
and 10 being the least tolerant, where would you place
yourself when it comes to posts that are off topic?

I would say that I'm quite tolerant as long the postings are at least computer
or chess related a seven or eight . But other subjects grade a three. Sometimes
I would try to gently suggest members solve their communications needs some
other way, maybe by sending them e-mail leading the way for them.

2) If a new member signs on and immediately starts to
attack a current member, what action would you take?

Such behaviour would get very short shrift. I would delete those posts and send
an e-mail to the new member requesting an explanation/apology. If the attacks
stop nothing more will happen for a while. If the attacks continue I would
suspend the new member and delete the new posts. Then I would talk to my fellow
moderators to reach a consensus. If none of the moderators get an e-mail from
the new member in a short while (a day or two), I would send a new message to
him requesting an explanation, and if no answer is forthcoming I would then
contact the other moderators to delete that account.

3) Would you allow discussions ABOUT moderation on the
CCC board (i.e. someone is banned and people wish to
voice their opinion one way or the other).

Yes I would allow discussions about moderation on the board and would not delete
such messages without the consent of at least one other moderator, if the
messages become off topic or Ad Hominem.

4) How many of the three moderators should agree before
a message is deleted?

Each moderator should be allowed to delete messages by his own if he deems it
necessary. The poster can argue his case to all the moderators later.

5) How many moderators should agree before a member is
suspended?

See the answer to question four. One should suffice but there should be attempts
to communicate between moderators beforehand, if at all possible.

6) If a member "flies off the handle" (i.e. starts cursing
at another member) in a single post, what action, if any, would
you take?

Delete the post. And send an e-mail to the offending member.

7) If you are outvoted by the other two moderators on a given
issue, and yet feel very strongly about your opinion, what, if
anything are you prepared to do?

I would accept the decision and get on with the work.

8) If someone posts some information on a human chess tournament,
do you feel as if they need to be notified that this is a
computer chess forum or would you wait for follow up posts?

I would definitely wait.

9) If you ask a thread to stop and one of the prticipants posts
that he disagrees with your directive, what, if anything, would you do?

Post a reply and ask that he stops as I asked. And ask for consensus from the
other moderators.

10) If a member of CCC were to go to the chess newsgroups and constantly
attack a member here and quote messages from CCC and comment negatively
upon those messages, what, if any action, would you choose to take?

If it is positively the same person I would discuss it with the other
moderators, and if we agree, send a request for an explanation. I'm not familiar
enough with international copyright law, I will research that now, to tell
what's not acceptable. If the offender cannot argue fair use he will be warned
for the first few times then suspended for a while. But if there is any doubt
about the identity (as there probably will be) no action will be taken.
