Go up one level in this thread

About 2 (very tolerant). I could be pushed up to about 6 (somewhat intolerant) if i get plausible complaints from members that the off-topic posts are causing them actual problems. >2) If a new member signs on and immediately starts to >attack a current member, what action would you take? Warn them if i notice or am informed. Delete the post if it's sufficiently bad. In the case of another seriously bad post after being warned, take action towards having them banned. >3) Would you allow discussions ABOUT moderation on the >CCC board (i.e. someone is banned and people wish to >voice their opinion one way or the other). Ok as long as the posts have MODERATION in the subject. See also note on off topic posts. I think this sort of thing is off topic. >4) How many of the three moderators should agree before >a message is deleted? Only 1. But if the moderator in question wants to discuss it with the others first, that's ok. If it is discussed, we should get agreement of at least 2 moderators before deleting. >5) How many moderators should agree before a member is >suspended? 3. >6) If a member "flies off the handle" (i.e. starts cursing >at another member) in a single post, what action, if any, would >you take? If i notice or am informed, warn the member, delete the post if it's bad enough. Watch for followups getting out of control. (By "watch", i mean try to find the thread again when i read CCC the next day. I'm not going to sit on CCC 24 hours a day looking for trouble.) >7) If you are outvoted by the other two moderators on a given >issue, and yet feel very strongly about your opinion, what, if >anything are you prepared to do? Depending on circumstances i might want to get an email conversation going between the moderators to make sure we can handle similar issues smoothly in future. I mean, mostly to find out exactly what their views are so i won't unilaterally do something they both disapprove of in future. Otherwise nothing. Getting outvoted before we do anything is ok. Getting second guessed and overuled after i do something is something i'd like to avoid where possible. There are a few serious issues where i might feel strongly enough to resign as moderator, but i think these are unlikely to come up. >8) If someone posts some information on a human chess tournament, >do you feel as if they need to be notified that this is a >computer chess forum or would you wait for follow up posts? If i noticed or was informed, i'd probably email them to mention that GCF exists. If there were already followups, i'd post it on the board instead. I probably wouldn't delete the post. >9) If you ask a thread to stop and one of the prticipants posts >that he disagrees with your directive, what, if anything, would you do? Not much, if the post has MODERATION in the title and is not abusive. I wouldn't necessarily read the post, so people might do better to send me email if they want to argue an issue like that. >10) If a member of CCC were to go to the chess newsgroups and constantly >attack a member here and quote messages from CCC and comment negatively >upon those messages, what, if any action, would you choose to take? As a moderator, nothing. Policing the newsgroups is not a job that CCC moderators are supposed to do, or that they are able to do. As just a "normal person" i might inform ICDChess management and anyone else whose toes were trodden on, in case they wanted to take it up with ISPs or lawyers or whatever. Then again i might not. >Steve (ICD/Your Move Chess & Games)
