Yes, I agree that it has changed. But there are problems with some of the changes. This is really a lousy interface to reading messages, compared with good news readers. But we are stuck with it. And in the process of getting stuck with it, we get stuck with downloading 100kb of message headers, many of which simply don't belong here and would be better suited to email. For specific topics, mailing lists are better than making everybody sort through the chaff to get to the wheat... > >So if two people are writing about a program and games they are playing a >moderator was to send them an email saying do it via email, then we would come >on expecting an update from the given two people only to find things stopping >dead. > There we may disagree. I don't believe that games have _any_ place here. Results? OK. Crosstables? OK. But this isn't the place to relay game moves back and forth... >I probably skip 90% or higher of threads that are posted, if it does not >interest me then I do not look. There is a fine line here. On one hand, some topics might be of interest to a select few... but on the other hand, those topics cause _everybody_ to have to sit and wait while the headers come across the net. That is the issue that is important, otherwise who would care about off-topic stuff of any kind? You don't have to read what you don't want to read. But you also shouldn't have to spend a lot of time sorting through headers to see what is computer chess and what is not... and you shouldn't have to wait forever for those occasional 200-300kb header downloads.
