The 1997 Computer Goe Congress took place in San Francisco,
November 21-23. Sponsors of the tournament were Ing
Educational Goe Foundation, Everex Computers and Asanté
Technologies. The tournament was organized by Ernest Brown of
American Ing Goe and directed by Danny Swarzman of the San
Francisco Go Club.
Thanks are due to the participants and the many people who have
worked to make this event possible.

Tie break between Go4+ and Handtalk (both on 8/9) was settled by SODOS
(sum of opponent's scores). Handtalk 30, Go4+ 29. Close !
Computer-Human Results
The computer champion, Handtalk, was matched against three
human players. Handtalk was allowed to place 11 stones as a
handicap. Handtalk defeated Lin Ting-Chao, a 13-year-old
Taiwanese 2 Dan by three points and Jonathan Wang, an
American 6 Dan by 21 points. Hwang Yi-Tsuu, an 11-year-old
Taiwanese 4 Dan soundly defeated Handtalk.
