After side on move comes castling status KQkq, Qkq or the like (where white is
upper case). When no player can castle tha's indicated by means of a hyphen.
Once that's specified we go for the ep target square (for example c6, notice
that's the one behind the pawn that has just advanced). If no ep suare at all...
another hyphen. Normally that's all. Some fen strings include the number of
times this position has arised throughout the game and the number of moves since
the last capture, pawn move or castling move (to apply correctly the 50 move
rule). Most test suites don't include these two. You can find more info in the
PGN standard.
