I think this is wrong.  It should be:

A = 0
B = 1
C = 2
D = 3
E = 4

(Note: I have found that most programmers start counting from zero,
while non programmers of course count starting with one :) )

So 001 = A01,
   452 = E52,
   199 = B99,
etc.
