CCC was formed by a bunch of people, mainly chess programmers, who didn't like to deal with all of the crap going on in rec.games.chess.computer. There were a few people in that newsgroup who were causing a tremendous amount of trouble, so much that the decision was made to create a new place that those people could be kicked out of if necessary. CCC is run by Steve Schwartz, who has final say in what happens here. The group is moderated by democratically elected moderators. This allows for enough control by sane people that the group doesn't ever get completely out of hand, and isn't so tightly controlled that we are all dictated to by one person. At the time, a moderated usenet group was considered, by nobody went to the trouble to create it. There is an archive where you can get at post posts. You can make your own thing that lets you browse them, but Steve doesn't have any old-post search facility or anything like that. bruce
