It is possible to play a game at slower time controls ie 20 to 40 minutes per side and use the computer at critical intervals. Faster time controls ie 1 to 5 minutes per side can be played by computer if you have an assistant who is helping you make the moves. The level of play in most of these rapid chess events is rather poor and a computer searching twelve ply in a second or two would be hard to beat. Another possibility is the group chess team that you might be playing against. Then there is the pervert who is a rated 2300+ elo player that will deliberately let you win/draw a few games and then humiliate you and tell you that it is not whether you win or lose but how you play the game. I have a feeling that most players do not cheat this way. It really does no good to have a machine beat the opponent since there is no feeling of mastery that you get when you use your own ability. You can play me on World ChessNetwork. I use my own abilities but am rather rusty after not playing humans for such a long time. Tim Frohlick
