They didn't offer any fast PIII's for "hire" at the event, so that wasn't an option. Due to the very short time to get this all set up, we really had no chance to locate anything faster. The 21264A's are better for me as they have the critical functions like popcnt() in a hardware instruction. But in any case, the 21264 we have is pretty close to a 1ghz PIII, close enough that it will be competitive. It will at least have all the tablebases (3-4-5) on it to help.
