Subject: Search "tree": full-width layer, selective layer

Hi all!

Does anyone use a shape of the tree made of

  - a full-width layer and
  - a selective layer?

I am playing around with ABC (Alpha-Beta Conspiracy Search). What I think is: a
full-width layer compensates errors the search makes in the selective layer,
thus permitting a deeper selective layer. But a full-width layer costs a lot if
not shallow.

ABC uses variable depth. It permits deep lines like Singular Extensions.
