What do the ICCA do with the money? If it's something that computer chess people like a lot, then i guess someone should try hard to raise the money and hold the event. If it's not, how about we side-step the ICCA, and get another tournament together. Then try to get enough programmers behind it to give it whatever prestige the WMCCC has now. I'm sure there's lots of prestigious organisations that would let their name be put on the event without us having to pay $30000. There might even be some that would pay money towards organising costs, though probably not much. How about the "IBM World Computer Chess Tournament", uniform platform, played on IBM computers of course. Tell them prize money is not important, but a venue, computers, net connection, web site with results, are. If they aren't interested, try Compaq, Apple, Fujitsu, Seimens, etc. If this is tried, the details should mostly be hammered out here, and non CCC people who have strong programs should be consulted too. That's before it gets taken to potential sponsors, so we can say a large fraction of the strongest programmers are behind it.
