Subject: "SwissPerfect"

I may be a bit naive, but I would have assumed that a software program
purporting to supply pairings according to the rules for a Swiss-system
tournament would be rigorously tested before release. The fact that the
pairings for Round 6 have now been retracted suggests that this was not the
case.

A friend of mine has developed and marketed a program that does the same thing.
(I believe it is called SwissManager, and when I say "does the same thing", I
mean "does what it is supposed to do".) I have played in many tournaments where
it was used, also in Swiss systems with many rounds in relation to the number of
participants - e.g. 11-round blitz tournaments with, say, a field of 20. Not
once did the contestants have reason to doubt the accuracy of its pairings.

Evidently a) it *can* be done, and b) "SwissPerfect" is not.
