But there are also other reasons: in the case of Hiarcs, for example, regarding Paris, it was also money. The ICCA has a strange way of rating the programmers into professionals, semi-professionals and amateurs. Amateurs pay nothing and even get money for the WCCC. Profs had to pay $ 1000 for participation. Mr Uniacke has a full time job in a company, and works for chess in his spare time. He was rated as professional. Donninger works as a full time chess programmer, and was rated as amateur or semi. It is high time that the ICCA finds a better way of rating. In case they have sponsors like the Paris stock exchange they should charge nothing for participants.
