Shredder book is strategically very good.
Look at its spanish lines with white and its line against caro-kann.
It allows the opponents to make a lot of mistakes strategically spoken.

Like allowing dxe4 against Zchess.

Obviously it is not the worst book. It's a very well tested book.
Only superseeded by the Kure book and Noomen preparation.

I found Noomen prepared the best for the WMCC. Because of the many
fritz interfaces and not having the worst engines,
Kure scored however most points on book. Also the fact that many
books at WMCC still relied heavily on automatically generated books
favours Kure a lot.

The Shredder book doesn't kill you like those books do. However instead
it allows you to slowly die into a position where shredder will play well.

Also don't forget that when preparing a shredder book you CAN allow shredder
to play a few moves on its own, Kure hardly can't. He's not allowed to
use a real good engine with his book!

Worst were by far Crafty and DIEP.

In the game diep-crafty we were both at the same time out of book.
Regrettably for crafty it played o-o there.

I found all programs suck still in the middlegame.

Not near to that. Shredder ruled in the endgame by a large margin,
no one even getting close.

I remember that Fritz had quite a good position against Shredder when
the endgame started.

With a bit better endgame and just playing the expected moves of
Shredder, then fritz would have won against Shredder.

Rebel/Tiger sure do well in closed positions compared to others.
Also i find Fritz improved here.

Junior is very bad here. For example
it didn't see a thing when DIEP attacked it.

Also Shredder is not very good in attacking opponents kings.

The game DIEP-Crafty where diep played completely without book after o-o
is a clear example of a good attack from white.

idem. Also i find that Insomniac did a very good job here. Notice
the tough game Nimzo-Insomniac and the endgame Insomniac-DIEP.

This WMCC has not proven a thing about this.

Usual aggressive programs do very well here. Like Fritz, Nimzo,
Lambchop, ZarkovX, Gandalf and DIEP are very aggressive programs.

They'll do much better against humans as the other programs. Just
look on the internet.

Also crafty has become a bit less defensive as it used to be.

Comon the tiger book at WMCC was way better as Shredder.

Tiger even got won out of book against the big Kure book with the
novelty as played in the Fritz-Tiger game.

In several respects a lot of programs are close indeed. Yet the
endgame of Shredder, despite that i don't find its middlegame very impressive,
this endgame simply rules and prevents it from losing positions.

See my report on DIEP(eveen) to the WMCC about my opinion here.
