I have followed Bob's suggestion here - I vote with my money. Although I buy almost everything available, I have stopped buying DOS-based programs. CSTal, Rebel 9, and MCP7 are all great programs, and I can probably get them to work on most of my computers. The problem is that I frequently switch computers, and everytime I do I have to go through the whole process again. As long as I have multiple Windows-based strong programs available, I just don't need to go through the hassle. Thus I don't buy unless they are Windows native. While I'm only one person, if others follow the same approach eventually the programs will be forced to switch.
