Subject: Can't tell which program is BEST--Buy the top 6ix.

Dear CCC,

The recent WMCC was a most interesting event. The level of play is becoming
increasingly intricate and deceptive ie "like a grandmaster". In order to avoid
bitterness and factionalism I suggest that you should try to purchase the top
programs every two to three years. Hiarcs, Rebel/Tiger, Fritz, Shredder, Junior
and MChess are good programs. This is an exciting time. The programs are good
but they still lack grandmaster "finesse". In time we will see such programs
but we are watching the progress and it is fascinating.

The programs are better than 90% of us (Lawrence Chen)and (Larry Tamarkin)
excluded. Please help the starving computer programmers and sales professionals
and contribute to the further development of these marvellous diversions.

BTW In five years from now the standard computer will be the equivalent of an 8
GHz machine with an internal 2 GHz data bus with the equivalent of 4 GBytes of
RAM and 600 GByte "hard" data storage. The monitors will be plastic with a
diagonal size of 24 inches and a peak resolution of 4000x9000 and a refresh rate
of 200 Hz. I think that you will still have to turn it on but it will be in
constant readiness and there will be no boot up period. Believe it or not, the
machines will still not beat the top grandmasters at 40/2 chess...
