After an exhaustive count, and after the last 48 hours spent downloading, I can
say that 273 times I needed the password, while 227 times I didn't.  Which
means, more or less, that at a certain time (say X) the password was needed,
while at another time (say Y), it was not necessary.  So much about the
immutability of the Universe. (Should I say "Panta rei"?, or "Boredom is like a
pitiless zooming in on the epidermis of time"?)
