I'd have to remove it from config and check again to see if it was different
without the line loading himen.sys, the whole Windows envirement worked ok
without it.

I've never really sat down and figured out Fritz3 at all, the book works in
Windows, and I know I have put together a boot floppy that got around that
hashtable problem, but I lost that thing.

That's a nice batch file, I'd have to study it more to figure out what it's
doing because you do the choice/errorlevel thing different than I've done them,
here's an example of a chunk of my Chess menu:

@echo off
c:
cd\
cls

[snip]
(echoed menu display here)

choice /c:12345678cagwtiyfsnomdv /n

if errorlevel 22 goto diep
if errorlevel 21 goto dino
if errorlevel 20 goto menu

[snip]

:NOW
cd\doschess
now x
del games
c

:rebel
cd\decade12
rebel.exe v
c

:reb2
cd\decade20
rebel.exe s
c

[snip]

And the "c" just returns it to the Chess menu (c.bat) which sits in the root
directory which I made part of the path. It's a little easier for me to get
around a batch file laid out like that.
