However, >it did come in 1, 2, ..., 32 processor versions, so I'll at least bet it is >a "low-ender". My mistake. It is a seven year old C90, not a T90. Quoted from the E-Bay ad: "Mario contains 16 vector processors, each capable of 1 GFLOP performance, main memory amounting to 512 MegaWords (4GB), and a 512MW (4GB) Solid-state Storage Device (SSD) serving as an extension to memory. He comes with raid controllers and disks providing over 130GB of high-speed disk storage." Oh, shipping and handling not included. :) >But it would be nice. One warning: Ask Cray what kind of power it >needs. :) I have the specs in my office... It would cost a small fortune >to cool and run it. Of course. The Slashdot commentary was estimating $20K/month in electricity bills (with discounts if you provide a generator for backup and peak load times). No mention of cooling requirements (although one Minnesota technician mentioned that the Cray at his university was used to heat the entire building and parking garage during the winter!) Another possible use would be as corporate lobby art. It has a unique futuristic look and built in seating! [Oops, the C90 didn't have the seating according to the E-Bay picture.] I re-posted this here because 1) how often do you see a supercomputer being auctioned off in the same forum as beanie-babies :) and 2) some people here have worked on Crays and would get a chuckle out of the bidding price (up from $35K I might add) and 3) it might spark more Cray Blitz vs. [insert modern program here] debate which this forum so desperately needs. :)))
