Dear Marc,

Consider your treatment as a compliment. The stupid always select the real stars
for denigration.

The Computer Chess Community itself is deeply depressed and seriously unheathly.
Do not be disturbed if these people hurt you or attack you or ignore you. They
need you more than you need them, for you are one of those they cast as
outsider, cast, in your case, into the role of 'village idiot' to be ignored.
They need you, and others like you, to convince themselves they are 'sane' and
'normal'. In reality they hide their terror of not being at all sure of what is
deep down inside themselves behind a mask of facts, logic and rationality. They
will have already mentally consigned your post to the dustbin of off-topic,
when, again in reality, it is the sanest and most on-topic post of the month.

If you came here, believing you knew not very much, and in the hope of meeting
people who would know more then yourself, you will have been sadly disappointed.
You will have met some people with skills, but, sadly again, that is not the
same thing as knowledge.

This is a place centred on a zero-sum game, played in a non-team environment.
You can only expect to meet only individualised, non-cooperative, competitive
people, only too eager to increase their position by decreasing yours - the
essence of zero-sumness. Add to this the de-humanizing aspect of working
entirely through a screen, the declaration of all intimacy or human contact or
life itself as off-topic, the mania for rankings, numbers, lists, hardware size
etc. Thus is created a madhouse. By the way, there is, and always has been, a
good deal of behind the scenes manipulation by various individuals who see ways
to make money (or power) out of the 'community'. Bad stink for those with noses.

Make your exit to sanity. It is found elsewhere than here. Here is only lunacy.
As 99% of all potentially interested visitors have proven with their mouse
clicks (lack of).

Good luck.
