>Not really something bad. But things to do with chess are simply not my main purpose in life, no matter how addicted I may be to it. Eventually I was always going to wean myself away from it, and give it up entirely. I would have liked to have become a GM, or something, but even then I would have resinged sooner or later, unless I was earning alot of money with which I could help myself and others, as that would have been a higher purpose, Though money in itself is not the high purpose, so even for money, maybe not for ever. It's a bit hard to explain, but somehow, as a somewhat religious Jew (!) the chess mental state, doesn't seem to fit in (as a lifelong thing) with the somewhat more spiritual and selfless state of mind and being which I feel deep down, is demanded from me. Even a hobby I feel has to be based on helping others. Though I somehow feel that another "hobby" of playing the violin (classical) can qualify (for me, though also, not necesarily for ever).
Now, that I've been through a short lived marraige, and divorce, and anyway
not feeling too well for about 3-4 years, so chess and other computer things
helped me. And during this period, I feel that the best chess programs would
promote my life and pleasure better.
Even though I rarely survive in an equal game vs. computer, I have always felt
some frustration with something still missing from the computers understanding.
But sometimes, it can really be fantastic when you try to work out why the
computer did what it did. But you need to put your mind to it, and hopefully the
upcoming generation will play even deeper ideas.
Thanks everyone!
