Sarah, this is probably an unnecessary debate as CM is in its final testing
phase. Engineering usually does not want to add functionalities to a beta and it
makes sense but maybe there is a way to satisfy both of you.
John, have the development team ever considered using a third-party auto232
interface ? Several of them exist and, what may be very interesting for you,
some are provided as winboard-engines which is something you already support for
CM8K.
Maybe, if you can get an agreement with the author (he provides it for free),
there is just a possibility to integrate the auto232 winboard engine in the
package, after some test/tweak/configuration and documentation you can maybe
claim a experimental auto232 support in your product without much development
(or maybe least in a patch).
The CM development team can have a look to http://www-leibniz.imag.fr/~coulom/
Extract from Remi Coulon page:
" wbengine0046.tar.gz (07.18.2000) Connect a winboard engine to an auto232
opponent
a232eng0046.tar.gz (07.18.2000) Connect an auto232 engine to winboard "
I do not say it is very easy or a perfect solution but just trying to be
constructive here.
