I use Norton AntiVirus 2000 because I think it is the best. I have not noticed
any negative effect on the performance of my chess engines. However, when I play
serious tournament games I always disable Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect.

I had Norton Utilities in the past and I was not happy with it. Norton Utilities
itself caused crashes and troubles on my computer! Shame on Symantec company! :(
Thus, it could disturb the performance of any chess engine. Well, Norton
Utilities is not essential.

Lastly, I recommend not using too many utility-type software on a computer
because of undesired burden on it.
