Before you spend much money for an antivirus software have a look at

http://antivirus.cai.com/

It has very good ratings and is free including free virus signature updates .
One of the top downloads for me .

Oh , to not be completely off-topic : when playing with chessprogram it will do
nothing so no performance problems , it will only wake up if you download
something .
