>I will wait for feedback before proceeding. > >-- Don I would support you with all my programs as I will try to do so with Dirk Frickenschmidt's positions. I am NOT interested in how strong an engine comes out of an opening book. I was also never interested how good a killer book or a learning function is. This IS important - but not for me when I try to differenciate between different engines. Therefore I often SETUP=forced games from special BALANCED positions. Advantage was always: programs had to compute early in the opening. No killer-book side-effect against statistics. No learning-side-effect against statistics. What Dirk tries with his "let them play from this position and STUDY how different program handled different chess-topic different" (how did they play for/against the isolani, how did they manage to handle pawn-majority king-side ...) is to get very CLEAN data, with not many side-effects from books and learning-algorithms. Whenever somebody invented a POSITIONAL test suite, the ranking showed after all: it is just another effort of a tactical find the key move suite. I guess Covax and Michael Reiter-test suite are different. They are very interesting. Lets try to create more of these interesting instruments. The fact that many of us with different programs and different experiences discuss this is a nice chance and... last but not least... FUN ! Also I am pleased to do something very human and social after all this ATTACKS and insults of the last 3 or 5 months (you ALL know what I am talking about). So - please try and let us try to help you Don-.
