As was recommended already, get Numega BoundsChecker. Demo is available, it integrates with Visual Studio and works well for out-of-bounds cases. Purify is for NT only IIRC. Using an array class should also work - for example MFC's CArray will ASSERT when you go out of bounds in Debug mode.
