Then assigning to X[10] might already be fatal :-)

For the gcc there is a patch available which does bounds checking and also helps
to detect memory leaks. Have a look at http://gcc.gnu.org/extensions.html and
look for "Bounds checking patches for GCC releases and GCC snapshots"
