  I use piece mobility. I just simply calculate how many moves can make the
pieces (ignoring pawns, and counting the king only in the endgame). This was my
first evaluation parameter (apart from material, of course). I've tried to get
rid of it some times, cause it's slow, but I can't manage to remove it without
hurting a lot the playing strength, so it's still there.

  King safety is difficult to implement, because you have to avoid being
attacked, but eigther you have to avoid making unsound attacks. There are plenty
of things to take into account, so try experimenting and see what happens.
