Subject: Rebel8 and Rebel9 on SSDF (explained)

Author: Ed Schröder

Date: 00:08:49 12/16/97

After my own research and some emails with SSDF I can report the
following concerning the "main book=off" topic.

One SSDF tester unintentional turned off the Rebel8/9 main book.
Surprisingly the error was restricted to only REBEL matches!

After extensive research from Jeroen and myself I can report that only
the following matches were infected:

- Rebel8 (P90)
- Rebel9 (P90)
- Rebel9 (P200-MMX)

This seems to fit my initial posting about this topic in which I posted
6 examples which were all games between Rebel versions.

Although I have seen much more cases where the "main book=off" played
its role I can safely say now that the damage is limited to +15 / -15
elo points which is not much.

This because of the "similarity" between the Rebel8 and Rebel9
tournament books. Against other programs the "main book=off" could
have been quite dramatic.

Since only Rebel - Rebel matches are involved the +15 / -15 is honestly
divided in the Rebel8 / Rebel9 family.

Thoralf reported that after removing the Rebel-Rebel matches in
question R9-200MMX would go down 15 points and the R9-P90 would go
up 17 points.

The question remains of course what would have happened if the Rebel-
Rebel matches were played with the good settings.

For Jeroen and me the matter is closed now, I can live with the above
whether SSDF removes the Rebel matches in question or not.

I now finally can update to the new SSDF list on the Rebel Home Page
and shortly comment in similar wordings as above.
