Subject: Variable Selectivity?

Hello.. I was tinkering around in Fritz6 and think that running a slightly
higher selectivity than default (say, 3.. 4 in some case's) helps strength quite
a bit between moves 1-30 or so. Well, usually when the board starts clearing out
at those levels I get to around a depth of 20 or so but I don't think thats a
good idea, around the time I start getting hellish NPS I kick the selectivity
down to around 0-1 to find the 'better' move in about the same depth (of course
because i'm getting well over 1m NPS). Seems (to me) to play stronger than just
leaving it at 2 or 3 throughout the entire game.

I'm wondering if anyone has implimented variable selectivity settings in any
progams or have tried to? Any suggestions/comments?
