I saw a couple tests and it showed a non-DDR thunderbird 1.1ghz beating a Pentium 4 1.4Ghz. (even some of the tests showed the P3 was *faster* than the p4). Looks like Intel is pulling the same stuff again ;). Anyway, on average the Thunderbird is faster than a P3 at the same mhz and with DDR memory the thunderbird is up to 20% faster. Currently the P3 is available at 1ghz (since they recalled their 1.13ghz p3) at over $700. The 1.1GHz Thunderbird costs only around $650 & the 1ghz model is $460. Dual thunderbird motherboard's should be coming out soon so I think it would be wise to wait for that.. as it will be a monster.. :) The Thunderbird's coming from Dresden now are all 1-1.1ghz core's (any cpu they ship out of their, including the thunderbird 700's). If you can find a blue core (which denotes that the cpu's a copper/dresden model) then you can be assured it'll overclock to 1ghz or greater. If you need a dual setup now then I suggest 128 or 256mb PC133 ram & two P3-700E's (FC-PGA), they should make it up to 1Ghz at around 1.80-1.95v. I myself have a single Celeron-2 566MHz @ 1065MHz (2.00v, 125.28mhz bus, 8.5x multi=1064.92mhz as reported via wcpuid). In Fritz6 I get a 713 Fritzmark.
