Hi Thorsten,

This Fritz thing is out of control.

But all of the programs have been tested and rated. This is what you
should go by. I got the impression "software of the year" had a lot
more to do with features than strength. Am I wrong? I have an old
version of Fritz and really like the interface and usability. I have
Rebel too and love the strength but hate the interface. Just because
Fritz may not be the strongest possible program is no reason for it
not to be software of the year. I personally do not know if it
deserves to be or not and I'm not going to take sides, but it's very
difficult to respect YOUR reasons for claiming it shouldn't be.

Don't you think you're being just a teeny weeny bit unfair here? In
every way imaginable you've stacked the odds in your favor:

  a) You took the white pieces, A big advantage right there.

  b) You chose a hash size that favors your slower program.

  c) You chose a processor your program was optimized for and Fritz
      was not.

  d) You played only 1 game, a virtually meaningless result.

After doing all of this, you then attached GREAT MEANING to the result.

But I don't even trust the results at face value any more (even though
they are not important given the sample size of 1.) You seem to
have such a strong personal agenda that it's hard for me to believe
you could even execute a fair test. NO I'm not accusing you cheating.
I just think you have to many emotional biases to properly construct
a scientific test. It's extremely easy to bias a test without even
knowing it and I'm extremely distrustful of results that are reported
unless I personally know the tester quite well.

How many games were played in Paris? I really do not think enough
games were played to get a true sense of what Fritz is capable of.

But if you insist on taking 1 tournament so seriously, then keep in
mind which program is current world champion. Again, you are taking
a single result (PARIS) and attaching too much meaning to it.

I know you think of yourself as a brilliant artist and not as a
cold logical scientist but surely you understand that a little
common sense has it's place too? You are treating everyone as
if they were idiots.
