That was him.  He played a game vs chess 4.x at one of the late 70's ACM events.
I actually don't remember how the game turned out (I think he might have lost
in fact).  But of course, at the time, he was already very old and way past his
prime for playing chess.

No really good stories about him to tell.  Quite friendly.  "plain" (ie no wild
antics like George Koltinowski [not sure that is spelled right], etc.)

Was nice to get to meet some of these guys.

Best story has to be one about Botvinnik.  He came to the 1983 WCCC event
ready to crown Belle the WC since it had won in 1980 and was considered the
favorite.  He brought two ceremonial 'horns' (tiny animal horns used to drink
some sort of alcoholic beverage in the Soviet Union).  One was to be given to
Ken Thompson, the other to Joe Condon (the Belle team).  We upset the apple-
cart as you probably know...  and at the awards banquet he did some fast
thinking (We had three team members, Hyatt, Gower and Nelson) and said "here
is one horn for Cray Blitz and one for the team."
