I just replaced my 5 GB UDMA 66 running at 5400 RPM in my AMD K6-II 500 Mhz with a 20 GB Ultra ATA 100 running at 7200 RPM, then I decided to pit it against my other AMD Athlon 800 Mhz, which is using a 13.5 GB but with a UDMA 66 running at only 5400 RPM. Both computers are using Fritz 6a with 128 SDRAM and to my surprise after 30 games at G/60 mins per side the AMD K6-II 500 MHz is winning with a small marging of 2 games. I truly believe that even the small speed difference of my Athlon 800 MHz vs the AMD K6-II 500 MHz which should not be over 30 rating points using the same software, is not enough to challenge the new Ultra ATA 100 running at 7200 RPM. My only conclusion is that the new Ultra ATA running at 100 instead of 66 and with a 7200 RPM vs 5400 RPM made a big difference here. Pichard.
