This sounds like a harddrive and/or drive cache problem to me. The opening trees
usually are very big files... did you notice any other HD access problems in
general?

Maybe the cache size must be forced. You could try the following at your own
risk; I have done this too with good results:

Add the following lines to your system.ini (in the windows directory):

[vcache]
MinFileCache=2048
MaxFileCache=4096

Of course you can use bigger values, if your memory size allows it. You must
restart Windows to let the settings come into effect.

Another idea to search for the reasons would be, to try a very small book and
see, if the problem is still the same. In this case, HD access could not be the
reason I think.
