Subject: Prepare your wallets or what a heck are we going to do...

In a couple of months or sooner we will see coming into us the following bunch
of programs asking for our money and our time:
a) Rebel 11 package, weith two or three programs. Three if that misterious
Tiger gambit comes...
b) Schredder 5, maybe stand-alone or in a bundle with who-knows-what
c) CM 8000 with its new engine. Who can lose it?
d) Perhaps Mchess 9. Just a rumour, but...
d) The new Hiarcs. This "new Hiarcs" things is so old that maybe it will become
truth.
e) Fritz 7. You can expect germanic commercial precision in the date of
delivery. No jokes with them, get the money right now.

To that you can add the programs that very recently stroke the field or are
coming in matter of days:
a) Chess Assistant.
b) Gandalf
c) Chess base
d) A variety of modules of both of them

Of course there are, according to my sources, some possible surprises on the
way:
a) Perhaps a commercial version of Peter Mckenzie program?
b) Perhaps a new lucky strike buy the authors of Virtual Chess, the excellent
french program?
c) Perhaps a new stand alone version of WChess by Kittinger?
d) Perhaps a fixed and workable version of Power Chess?

Naturally you must add:
a) A new crop of CD's with a variety of engines
b) More CD's with just another crop of magazines articles
c) Even more CD's with a new stock of opennings

Well, Am I missing something? What a heck are we going to do? Maybe I should
sell my collection of old cars to get the money. And what I am going to do with
my "old" programs? Some are so recently installed that I have not yet played
more than one or two games with them. And I have not more room to stock the
increasing pile of old programs that becomes obsolete the same day I put my
hands on them. In fact I have realized that the more programs I have, the less I
play. Kind of subtitution of chess playing mania for collection mania of chess
stuff?
In fact, according to my calculations, each of us should get around 500 bucks if
you still pretend to be considered a respectable member of this group. 500 is
the minimum, of course.
Fernando
