Ed, I did telephone your home about this at 2:00 am Netherlands time. Unfortunately you were not home and you do not have voice mail, so the best thing I could do was to email both Rob and you. I am very sorry that I have lost your trust, but I never had any intention of hurting you. As I said when I walk the line of journalist and friend, it is very difficult to please all sides. If I was a mean person, I wouldn't have bothered to try to get in touch with you. At that point I was in possesion of public knowledge that would have been published very soon anyway. I took the decision to publish not wanting to be scooped, BUT at the same time, I did try to warn you. If I have lost a friend over this, I am very sorry, but a journalist's decisions are tough ones to make. The key point was that the information was public at the time I made my decision.
