There is no right and wrong here. It is a matter of judgment.
As I understand, having realized Ed's mistake KK attempted to talk to Ed
on the phone BEFORE posting the hint. Unable to reach him, Korner left
Ed a message and decided to publish the news.
Observations:
1. KK must have thought that there was a potential for hurting Ed, and
that it was appropriate to warn him
2. For a warning to be effective one must be assured that it is received
3. Neither e-mail, nor voice mail, should have been used for this
purpose as
both could be missed by Ed through no fault of his own
4. Since the news "was fast becoming public knowledge", the public was
not in danger of being deprived this information and KK's
journalistic obligation was therefore lessened
I believe KK regrets his impatience and even more so, because his first
instinct was indeed a noble one.
with respect, Peter.
