A crack? That seems extreme to me.  He didn't tell people how to modify
the code, he pointed out a flaw in it.  I would say its more like
pointing out "Hey, that guy left his car unlocked, somebody could steal
it!".  Do you arrest someone who does that, if he gains nothing by it?
Unethical, yes.  Illegal, perhaps.  Any lawyers in the house?
