I believe I (and the other moderators) also tried to allow the thing to die
of its own stupidity.  It didn't.  It kept going, and going, just like that
damned pink rabbit with a base drum.  And I am sure it would have continued
to go and go, tit for tat, until something happened.  It did, and it has
stopped.  It should have started _and_ stayed in private email.
