The major point of the GPL is that it forces anyone who uses even a part of your code to release complete source code of his program if he tries to distribute it (at least in theory). The BSD license has no such requirement. Personally, I don't have any problems with GPL itself or with programs released under it but I don't care much for the philosophy behind GNU. Some of it is completely unrealistic (software should have no owners, nobody should be making more than mean wage for writing software), some of it is just stupid (Stallman's insistence on calling Linux, GNU/Linux). Also, it seems ironic that many of the same people relying on GPL for protection have no quarrels breaking commercial licenses or "sharing" music.
